Metal buildings, as name suggests, are building made out of metal. As the hardest substances on Earth, metals are used in many constructions. They are popular choice due to durability. Examples of metals used are iron, steel, aluminum, copper, lead and tungsten among others. Mixtures of metals, known as alloys, are also in this category. These include steel, brass and bronze. Different types of metallic materials are used for differing applications, and varying features make them not be used for the same purpose.

There are features of metals that make them attractive as compared to other materials. Durable comes first. Compared to structures made of substances like wood, they are resilient and are able to withstand adverse conditions. This is perhaps the most important reason why they are used in building purposes. Flexibility is equally essential as it ensures the buildings are able to endure slight movements without change in shape.

Corrosion is a major concern when it comes to structures. A good number of the metals, notably steel, are able to withstand corrosion. Metal corrosion is brought about by factors such as acidity, alkalinity and the presence of chemicals. Another vital characteristic that such structures possess is their suitability at extreme temperatures. This implies they can be used in various environmental conditions.

The steel buildings are famously used for various reasons. Their structure is very advanced, a fact that gives the assurance of quality. As a consequence, the maintenance costs incurred are minimized a great deal. In the event of fires, they do not easily catch fire and are rarely degraded in such fires. This is applicable for the very hardened types.

Most components of metal buildings are able to be reused after the initial uses. This ensures there is no wastage of resources. Constructions done off the sites are easy too. Resistance to pests and other hazards is assured for most of them. Perhaps the most important reason why they are preferred is due to their being strong, durable as well as stable. As a result, they can last for long periods of time before any renovations are done.

Examples buildings made of metals are numerous. First, residential that are required to be durable are made metals. Factory and building structures constructed too. These especially need high levels of durability. Commercial apartments, that is, office, wholesale and retail outlets can be put up too. Others include stadiums, grandstands, multi storey car parks and churches.

There are two main advantages of such structures. First, since metals are good heat conductors, so are the structures. This leads to overheating during hot weather, which is a major environmental concern. They do not provide any insulation as other materials like timber. Secondly, for those not well designed, leakages of water may be experienced. Corrosion could be there too. It should be noted that these depend entirely on the metal used. Metal buildings are vital in society. They are high quality and give surety of lengthy stays. Due procedures and precautions ought to be taken in the constructions.
