If you have been approached by the environmental agency recently because the discharge from your septic tank is causing pollution in the a river or a stream you might be worried that you will have to spend thousands of pounds changing your septic tank system or you will be cut of, by the way if the environmental agency do cut your septic system off you will have to remove the waste from your septic system every other day, costing you around 100 a pop.

The other worry is that new (sewage treatment plants can cost a lot of money to install and supply, only the other week i had a customer phone me and say that he was quoted 38000 to install a klargester biocel to cater for his coffee shop with a kitchen and three toilets, I laughed and gave him a brochure for some of the sewage treatment plants we offer at a fraction of that price.

Lets have another look at the problem in hand, so the Sepa have told you that your septic system is too near a river and it is polluting, they will suggest that you install a Sewage system. But there is no need to replace your Septic system, you can keep it and still make the Sepa very happy, How?, by having a conversion unit installed for your septic tank.

What is a septic tank conversion unit? This is a smaller version of the sewage system you commonly might find, it is installed on the outlet of your septic tank, it treats the water that is discharged from the tank and then the waste water can legally discharge in to the water course, keeping the Sepa happy and your cash flow much better than if you were to rip out your septic tank and install a full sewage system. the other benefit is that you probably have a soakaway system in place now with your septic tank, with the conversion unit you will be able to bypass the soakaway and discharge straight in to the watercourse its self, all you will need is a 110 millimeter standard drainage pipes straight through, even if that is not possible because your septic tank is situated much lower than the watercourse for a small extra charge you can have a pumping system installed in to the Biocel and pump the waste up to the higher level.

A good option now is the new Tricel BioCel unit as it is the cheapest and easiest to maintain and install, plus it is a very well made tank, it is constructed with a thick shell of glass fiber making it the only sewage system that can be installed without having to use concrete backfill, the unit also comes with a alarm system witch most treatment plants you pay extra for, it is fully EU certified to EN12566-3 and starts at 1699 plus Vat. So don't panic you can save money and your environment by converting your septic tank rather than replacing.
