As long as the fixings are strong enough you can hang plant pots from the ceiling. So you still benefit from the plants without taking too much floor space. This can enable you to have a range of colours.

On a practical level you'll ought to spend some time & effort on keeping them happy. They will require watering more frequently but that is a minute price to pay for the supplementary color. Do not fall into the trap of adding too much water to your pots. That will kill them as surely as underwatering.

When you want to keep your flowers from getting too tall or spread out then use smaller plant pots. This will squeeze the roots & consequently the size of the flowers while not upsetting it or touching the colors and foliage.
