It is all too common for people to seek medication first when they get sick instead of trying to cure it naturally. Most of us have made it a habit to seek out chemicalized answers to our illnesses through over the counter medications. What if you could break the habit?

Peppers are wonderful natural health remedies. If you want an easy way to boost your immune system is to eat bell peppers, which are great sources of vitamin C. Cayenne pepper is another ingredient that is great for colds, flues and your sinuses. Putting cayenne pepper in your tea or in other foods can help stimulate your sinuses which will make it easier for you to breathe. Cayenne pepper is a great way to raise your body temperature so that you can start sweating out all of those cold and flu germs that are making you sick.

You don't have to eat a bunch of oranges to meet your vitamin C requirement! Those leafy greens you usually pass up are also great sources of Vitamin C! So, when you're feeling under the weather load up on salad and greens as well as downing a few glasses of orange juice. Other citrus fruits contain vitamin C as well, so change out your orange juice for some lemonade or limeade.

Ginger is a widely used ingredient for cooking and tea making. Adding some ginger to your food is a good idea when you start to feel sick is a great way to help fight off the germs. The healing properties of the ginger will start helping you get over your cold or flu. If you are a tea drinker, just add some ginger tea into your regular rotation and could will do wonders for your immune system.

Steam is very helpful. Instead of spending lots of dollars on sinus medication, take a long hot shower or bath. The inhaled steam will loosen up your sinuses which make it easier for you to breathe. The water used to produce the steam will be hot which will help your muscles relax and help you get the rest you need to heal. Sitting over a bowl or pot of very hot and steaming water (with a towel draped over your head) is another option for people who want to use steam to aid their breathing.

The towel helps contain the steam and move it toward your face as well as helping the water stay warm for longer periods of time. Ridding your sinuses of discharge is made a lot easier by the breathing in of steam. When you catch a cold or come down with the flu there are a lot of natural options to help you get better. Don't take a bunch of chemical based "cures" when there are better options available. If you've been given a prescription for medication from your doctor you should take it but if you haven't been given any direct orders why not try the natural alternatives to your pharmacy aisle?
