The Trashy Side Of Art

It no secret that trash is a big problem especially in urban areas where conditions are crowded. While there is a large movement to recycle and reuse all the materials we can to avoid having so much trash, it still piles up faster than most people would believe. However, there are some artists who are doing their share to cut down the amount of trash being sent to landfills, while creating some extraordinary or at least some unusual works of art using trash.

In many areas today, sculptures are using tin cans, plastic bottles, old car springs and nuts and bolts from old machinery to create art for parks, urban centers and even your own back yard. What started out as somewhat a crazy and different idea by one or two people has caught the imagination of artists all over the world who have begun using various types of trash to create interesting and eye catching pieces of art. From the woman in Michigan who designed a picture of the last supper entirely from drier lint to those large and interesting sculptures that are appearing all across the urban landscape, trash has become a little less trashy and a little more artistic.

Like all art some of these trash sculptures are well, not exactly a sight for sore eyes. However, others are breathtaking both in beauty and in form. It all depends on the imagination and the innovation of the sculptor himself more than the types of trash he chooses to use. This is recycling at it's best as these sculptures often use materials that would not often be able to be recycled and would take centuries to break down if put into a landfill.

Perhaps you have seen the giant skull made entirely of discarded kitchen utensils, or the horse type creature made from old tires. These are just two of the many types of trash that have been used to make stunning works of arts. Other materials have included old broken toys, watches and clock faces, and even a bull made out of parts from old vacuums and other electrical appliances. There are bird sculptures, dragon sculptures and even dinosaur sculptures all made from various types of trash. There is even one or two full size very realistic tree sculptures that are made up of nothing but someone's cast off garbage.

It is really amazing what can be done with that trash other than throw it in a landfill. And after seeing some of these wonderful and innovative sculptures you just might find yourself thinking that one of these piles of trash might look good in your town square or even your own back yard.
